The roles of  Semantics  in  Translation

                This article tell us about  Using Semantic in Translation.

                Translation is an activity for translate or change the meaning of one language to another language. When we want to translate some text, we have to know  the roles  of it.

Here are the rules of translation :

1.       Have knowledge of source and target language

2.       Know about the grammar and cultures

3.       Skill in translating.

In addition, not only the three point in above, we have to know the theory of translation is theory of meaning. We need a knowledge of semantics, because theory of meaning same with semantics.

Semantics is a branch of linguistics which study about meaning. Semantics have a very important role in translating. Semantics study provides the theories, approaches or methods in understanding “meaning” that very useful in translation.Many the difficulties of translating is related to meaning. The difficulties are as ambiguity, oligosemy and then cultural.

In Semantics, there are some methods of analysing meaning of the word.

a.       There are  tringular concept of meaning in which semantics  is also related to semiotics, pragmatics and discourse. It takes a point that, when we understanding the meaning of a sentence or paragraph, we need to relate it to the context of the text or paragraph.

b.      Componantial analysis method, also called as feature analysis or contrast analysis

c.       Theory of Natural Semantic Metalanguage (NSM) by Anna Wierzbicka

d.      Hermeneutics

e.      Lexical Semantics

                From that article, we know that Semantics is really impotant to use when we translate some text. And many method of semantics to analyzing the meaning of the word. I think that article  is a good article for us.
